2011 December Beneficiary: Children’s Home, Thangmeiband, Imphal, Manipur
Integrated Women and Children Development Centre IWCDC runs this children home. This children’s home has two group of children: 0-6 years children and 7-18 years girls. IWCDC rescues any abandoned babies. Search and screen for couples who wants to adopt and who can give these children a better life.
One of our volunteer recalls , “When I approach the child, picture 8, with blue jacket, the child calls out, “Kakaa, pambeyoo” [ Uncle, carry me up and hold me]. He was born 7 months premature and blind on one eye. I hold him up and he stares at my face and smiled. I can never forget that smile.”
And unlike the other orphanages we have seen so far, this was the only one which housed only girls. Studious and sincere. The two eldest Maya, in grade 10, picture 18 extreme left, and Merita, in grade 9, picture 18 using the computer, aspires to be doctors. And we heard they are topper in their schools: Kiddish Corner and Nirmabas school respectively.
