2011 December Beneficiary: Children’s Home, Dewlahland, Imphal, Manipur
Dewlahland’s Children Home is one of the oldest orphanage in Manipur. It was established by a group of woman in 1960. Currently there are 43 boys with 9 staff members. The name of the group that manages is called the “Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti”. Any woman can become a member of this group by paying the Rs 500 membership fee. The members in turn select the 15 member executive team. It was a lively experience going in here. The children were very attentive during the demonstration of the computers, internet and was very quite making us wonder if it was so boring or if they were always so quite but when we saw them playing soccer, we knew these were boys. Learnt that this is the children home where the Asian game boxing gold medalist Dingko hails.
