Our Mission
For an inquisitive mind, having access to the internet provides the best opportunity to learn and explore. But there are a lot of children without a computer and internet access. Our mission is to give these children the opportunity to access the internet, to learn and to gain knowledge.
Who are these children?
We are starting with the children living in orphanages in Manipur, India. Most of their parents died of AIDS. In each of these orphanages, there are about 50 to 60 children. These orphanages are run by volunteers with almost no help from the government.
How you can help?
You can donate your old working laptop and/or sponsor for the internet connectivity that costs about $8 per month. When you donate a computer, it is not just one child, but the whole orphanage that gets access to the internet. Some of these children are brilliant and they have great potential e.g. Tomba
What do we do?
Once you donate your old laptop, we will format the hard disk to ensure your privacy. Then, we look out for anyone going to Manipur and ask them to bring the laptop with them. We have volunteers in Manipur who will pick up your laptop, install an operating system on it, buy a USB modem for about $50, and demonstrate how to use the laptop to access the internet especially. Google, Wikipedia, games and cartoons (this always works). Finally we give your laptop to the orphanage, and when the bill for their internet connectivity is due we are notified and we pay for it.
